UNESCO celebrates World Book and Copyright Day on April 23rd.
www.248bookclub.com celebrates reading every day, with a virtual book club.
Marking a day that is devoted to promote public awareness and interest in reading and writing, UNESCO chose the 23rd because
of its historical significance, the anniversary of Shakespeare’s death. The day is to not only enjoy reading, be it creative,
or industrial, but to make books accessible to everyone.
This follows the philosophy and viewpoint of the www.248bookclub.com. Co-Proprietors, Falise Platt and JoAnne Stone-Geier
in creating their virtual book club and their roving author events to promote the pure enjoyment of reading, from bestsellers
to old favorites.
Amazon book sales, Libraries becoming interactive, blogs, and the influences of One Book, One Chicago, (this year, Raymond
Chandler’s The Long Good Bye) are working to bring excitement back to reading.
www.248bookclub.com recommends picking up a book, donating a book, or sending an email suggesting a favorite read to a
friend on April 23rd, and keep on reading everyday after that.
