Guest Take Out List - Author, Kim Strickland

Here are several books I absolutely love that kind of make me wish I’d written them:

A Prayer for Owen Meany,
by John Irving

This is my favorite book of all time and John Irving is my favorite author of all time. I love his wit and the unpredictability of his stories.

The Poisonwood Bible,
by Barbara Kingsolver

The characters in this story, years after I read it, are still so real to me, like old friends. And the story, though achingly painful to read, was so “true” it didn’t feel like fiction.

I Know This Much is True,
by Wally Lamb

This is a book that I can open to any page at any time and be completely drawn into the story, my acid test for a great book.

The Way the Crow Flies,
by Ann-Marie MacDonald

A flawless work of fiction. My only gripe with Ann-Marie MacDonald is that she’s only written three books.

Angela’s Ashes,
by Frank McCourt

This book launched the current red-hot memoir craze in publishing and is still, in my humble opinion, the gold standard to which all others should be held.

Conversations with God,
by Neale Donald Walsch

This is the first book I ever read that, when I finished it, I immediately flipped it over and started reading it again. It changed my life forever.

The Alchemist,
by Paulo Coelho

This is the second book I ever read that, when I finished it, I immediately flipped it over and started reading it again.
